Controlling Structural and Chemical Hazards in Demolition
Demolition is inherently high-risk. Before bringing in heavy excavators with shear attachments, contractors must verify that the structure will not suffer premature catastrophic collapse.
1. Pre-Demolition Engineering Audits
A certified structural engineer must document the sequential dismantling plan (AS 2601) and establish the Safe Working Load (SWL) for mini-excavators operating on suspended slabs.
2. Utility Air-Gapping
All live electrical, gas, water, and data services must be physically disconnected and air-gapped before demolition commences.
3. Dust & Asbestos Abatement
Use high-pressure water mist cannons for continuous silica suppression and conduct NATA-accredited asbestos clearance before general building knockdown.
